What is Espace Parents?
Espace Parents is a program that aims to support immigrant parents as they adapt to their new life in Quebec. Developed in collaboration between the Université de Montréal, the CIUSSS Centre-Sud, and the community, this program offers a series of nine two-hour sessions.
La Maisonnée, a key partner in this program, works closely with Espace Parents to train our project leader, who will be there to support you every step of the way.
A program structured into three essential modules
The Espace Parents program is divided into three main modules, each covering key topics to help parents better understand and support their children’s development.
Understanding the impacts of immigration on the family
Immigration is a life-changing experience, and it can have a profound impact on family dynamics. This module helps you understand these impacts and how to better manage adjustments in your family following a cultural and geographic change.
Identifying Your Children’s Needs and Identity
Children from immigrant families experience unique realities. This module allows you to better understand your children’s specific needs while helping them develop their own identity in a new country and culture.
Implementing Effective Support Strategies and Resolving Parenting Difficulties
This practical module provides you with tools to manage the daily challenges of parenting, while emphasizing the importance of supportive support and constructively resolving family conflicts.
A Certificate of Participation!
At the end of this program, you will receive a certificate of participation, demonstrating your commitment to the parenting learning and support process.
Who can participate?
The program is open to all parents who meet the following criteria:
Are you a parent of children aged 5 to 17? Are you an immigrant and have you been in Quebec for less than 5 years?
If you answered “YES” to both questions, you are eligible to participate in the Espace Parents program free of charge.
Important note: The program does not accept families in a situation involving the DPJ (Youth Protection Department).
When does the program start?
We are pleased to announce that the first two cohorts will be open starting mid-April, in French and Mandarin. Don’t wait any longer to seize this opportunity to support your parenting journey.
