Youth and scholar support
Children, adolescents and young adults are a part of immigration to which La Maisonnée is particularly attentive. Programs are put in place to support young people both at school and during school holidays and to support them in learning French and in their integration. If you would like to discover our various youth activities, we invite you to consult our attached calendar: Winter calendar.
Homework assistance and volunteering
Homework assistance is part of the program to support the francization and socio-cultural integration of adolescents enrolled in secondary school reception classes in neighbourhood schools. Social service workers accompany these young people during the school year, and are assisted by volunteers and student interns.
The aim is to provide families with a space for expression and exchange on issues related to settlement and integration in the new host society. Meetings are organized to learn about the services offered by La Maisonnée, but also those of the various institutions of Quebec, schools, universities, etc. Specific family life and couple questions are on the program of these exchanges which can be in the form of coffee-meetings, outings in the park or in other places at the convenience of the participants. Specific issues such as the education of children, the life of teenagers in a new socio-cultural context, the question of identity, can be tackled with complete freedom during these meetings.
Topics such as discrimination against women are discussed in order to inform the women concerned of the legal provisions put in place in Quebec. All relevant information and resources are provided in cases of domestic violence and harassment in all forms. The intersectoral approach makes it possible to cross the different types of discrimination related to ethnic origin, religion, educational level, social or marital status, etc.
This innovative program targets young permanent residents, accepted refugees and naturalized citizens, temporary workers and foreign students aged 14 to 25. It is part of the intercultural community intervention specific to young people and young adults. It provides them with a global and personalized support in their journey that will allow them to find their place in the host society. All means are used to ensure them an active listening, help in their job search and sports and cultural activities.
During the summer La Maisonnée organizes a day camp for young people aged 6 to 16 to allow them to practice French during the holidays, but also to socialize and discover Montreal through outings and activities in parks. They are supervised by instructors for 6 weeks. This day camp is reserved for children of parents recently arrived in Quebec who are registered for services at La Maisonnée as well as students enrolled in the homework assistance program offered by La Maisonnée in several high schools.
