Homework assistance

  • Accompany and support students from 12 to 17 years old in their integration and studies
  • Help them develop self-esteem
  • Help them live their integration in their new environment and in the host society
  • Give them an attentive listening
  • Support them in their personal journey
  • Offer homework assistance to welcoming class students once or twice a week
  • Propose, develop and facilitate workshops of improvisation, initiation to rap, etc.
  • The frequency of our activities depends on the number of registrations at each school stage

Food bank

  • Every Wednesday La Maisonnée distributes food to newcomers and residents of the neighbourhood who need the service
  • Ensure that clients receive quality service
  • Prepare the room where the service will take place (Basement of Saint-Ambroise Church)
  • Get involved every Wednesday from 11:30am to 4pm

Receptionist

  • There is a good chance that the first person you will meet at La Maisonnée will be the receptionist
  • The first interaction for our customers is essential
  • Welcome customers, notify team members of the arrival of customers and answer phone calls
  • This is an occasional volunteer offer

Interpreter

  • Act as an interpreter when social service workers come into contact with clients born allophones
  • Allow to learn more about clients needs
  • Volunteers are always accompanied by a social worker during these interventions
  • This is an occasional volunteer offer

Support during the intercultural festival at the end of the year

  • During this event, La Maisonnée celebrates its successes, thanks the volunteers and invites all guests to celebrate!
  • Prepare the reception room, pack gifts, welcome guests, serve them food, etc.

Income tax return

  • Every year during the tax return period, La Maisonnée offers a tax clinic service for eligible users for La Maisonnée’s services
  • If you have studies and experience in accounting we invite you to contact us

Registration

Once registered, we will contact you as soon as possible.

Interview

Following the first contact, an interview takes place with the worker in charge of volunteering. During this, you will be asked several questions relating to your interests and your availability, in addition to scenarios.

Finally, La Maisonnée will contact you to let you know if your application has been accepted.

Can I volunteer during evenings and weekends?

Most volunteering at La Maisonnée takes place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at our offices. However, it may happen that specific exceptional activities with our customers take place in the evenings or even on weekends.

I am currently an asylum seeker. Can I volunteer at your organization?

Absolutely, whether you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, asylum seeker, foreign student or temporary worker, you can volunteer with us.

Can I get involved in several volunteer activities?

Of course! If you have time, you can get involved in several volunteer missions. For example, you could get involved as an interpreter, but also at the food bank. The possibilities are limitless!

Do I have to get involved as a volunteer for a minimum period?

You can volunteer at La Maisonnée for as long as you wish or even help us with a single activity. Everything is possible. What is important is to respect your commitments and notify us as soon as possible if you cannot participate in one of our activities.
